103 102 RELATIONSHIPS 15 Make the most of mealtimes This listening exercise from integrative psychotherapist Hilda Burke helps you to learn to create space and time to fully enjoy other people when you sit down with them to eat. When sitting down to dinner with others, leave any digital devices in another room and commit to spending 15 minutes dedicated solely to listening to what they want to say. Upon hearing certain buzz words that resonate, recognise them as a cue to share your own opinions or thoughts on a subject. Starting with 15 minutes, and alternating between being the speaker and the listener, means that there’s an awareness of making that time count.
