Artist Statement My photos are meant to establish a link between the landscape’s reality and the imagined. With influences deriving from Heine’s 'Pencil VS Camera' technique, supplementary amalgamations involving structural elements have been dispersed into my artwork. Through the repetitive implementation of vignette borders and array of frames, the viewer is left with an insight into my subjective consciousness. By choosing mainly formal solutions, I have investigated the dynamics of landscape, including the manipulation of its effects and the limits of spectacle based on our assumptions of what landscape means to us. I have drawn inspiration from a blend of psychology and surrealism, aiming to illustrate the metaphysical deterioration of the body that is catalysed by a state of heightened emotion. The utilisation of the whimsical and unordered aspects of surrealism is implemented via the jarring appearance of the skin cascades across parts the vulnerable body. In summation, Sick Sad Psyche aims to encapsulate a tumultuous psyche and its ability to distort reality. Vanessa Artwork: Sick Sad Psyche Expressive Form Collection of Works
