What is Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal development or damage to the brain at birth. It is the part of the brain that controls movement, balance and posture. Geoff Havel, came to speak to us about his book, Dropping In. The book is about a couch with wheels that Geoff saw some boys riding on down a road. The main character in Geoff’s book has cerebral palsy. When he was onto the eighth chapter, he met Peter Hall. Peter was the exact person Geoff had been creating in his book. He also has cerebral palsy. Geoff got his contact details and now they are working together. Peter came to speak to us with Geoff. He is the man in the wheel-chair. Peter Hall goes around to schools talking to school kids. He is an inspiration. He’s like a batter in cricket. He faces everything the bowler of life bowls at him and constantly hits them for six. He is never on the sidelines, always having a go. Even when he is fielding, he catches all of the balls of opportunity that come flying his way. He defies everything scornful people say about him, and gives everyone a shock. He is the embodiment of life, and we should all follow his teachings. Liam Geoff Havel AUTHOR I think Geoff Havel is a great author and he gave us lots of feedback. He told us many stories and gave us loads of advice. He also told us how he got his inspiration and that there are many ways we can get ours. He told us about the graph for the tension increase in the story and how the character changes throughout. He communicated what he wanted us to know in a very different, exciting and confident way. He was inspirational and gave us good ideas for our short stories. He was also creative and funny which helped us focus on him. He taught us lots and it was great all-round. Ankush Read about the book HERE! Meet Wesley College, South Perth WA
