The humid, hot, dead green land Holds my home sweet home Snowy mountains, dry deserts, Sand and rough sea foam. My life has always been here In this immortal place A land of many cultures We shall share this space. The heart of this country Is hot, and baked like clay The dusty, golden plains Warm from night to day. Sugar-coated mountains Found in the cool south-east Fun weather as it lasts But soon this snow has ceased. As the ocean falls like heartbeats The sand will whip my legs Wonderful tropical rainforests With trees standing tall like pegs. The wondrous dead green bush land With trees reaching tall The breathless bush in order Led by the kookaburra’s call. Flood, fire and drought Destroy this beautiful land But after all that’s happened Everyone still stands. The humid, hot, dead green land Holds my home sweet home Those who do not love it Are blind to what is shown. Jacqueline, Year 7 St Columba's Catholic college Springwood NSW My Love, Australia poetry
