Madeleine, Year 7 St Mary’ s Anglican Girls’ School Perth WA BOOK RE- VIEWS Short Holly Goldberg Sloan Dai Books Does being short matter? In this book, Julia finds out in a surprising way that being short doesn’t matter. This book is a fantastic read that 10-14 year olds will enjoy. The novel’s message is ‘it doesn’t matter how much you grow on the outside; it matters how much you grow on the inside.’ (page 296). Short is about a girl called Julia. She has been cast as a munchkin in the local production of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ This is when she realises that maybe being short has some advantages, such as she isn’t clumsy. She is light and floaty because being short gives her more balance and she can squeeze into small places to retrieve objects. Short is hard to start reading at first but keep on reading because at about Chapter 5 the drama begins and you won’t put the book down. I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for book clubs. The Silent Invasion James Bradley Pan Macmillan An adventure, two sisters, and an alien infection. The Silent Invasion is an absolute page turner! It’s about a 16-year-old girl called Callie and her sister Gracie who has been infected by the spores from space and is changing. When Callie finds out that Gracie is infected she tries her best to protect her and keep the infection at bay until she can find somewhere safe to take her. I thought the book was a great read, I couldn’t stop reading! Over all I would give it 4/5 stars! Lucy, Year 7 St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School Perth WA REVIEWS
