pine Out Daniel, Year 9 Cedars Christian College Unanderra NSW FEBRUARY / MARCH 2018 The Royal Ranger 2: The Red Fox Clan John Flanagan Random House The latest book in ‘The Ranger’s Apprentice’ series is exhilarating. The Royal Ranger 2: The Red Fox Clan follows on from book 12 where Maddie is now a fourth-year apprentice. When spending time at Castle Araluen she finds out the plot against her and her family and has to use all her skills to escape danger and keep her family safe. The people who usually help her out are unavailable and she has to call on all her skills to survive. Like all Flanagan’s book, this one is easy to read and hard to put down. By not ending the story, Flanagan has got me excited about the next one, which thankfully comes out later this year and will be on my Christmas list! I rate this book 5 stars. If you loved the other books in the series this is a must read. His Name Was Walter Emily Rodda His Name Was Walter is an excellent book written by Emily Rodda. It has become one of my favourite books because of the captivating mystery of what happened in the house. The story begins with a school bus breaking down and the discovery of a secret drawer with a book inside. As the characters read the book you start to realise the house and the book are linked. The mystery deepens by jumping from book to ‘reality’ and you get as excited as Colin and Tara continue to read it way after their teacher tells them to go to sleep. The book was hard to put down. Although a different style from what I expected from Emily Rodda, this book was thrilling to read and I just wanted to know what was going to happen. I rate this book 5 stars and recommend it for anyone that wants a thrilling read.
