Canberra Grammar School (CGS) students returned from Auckland in July as the first-ever Australian Kids’ Lit Quiz World Champions. CGS’s team of four students pitted their literary knowledge against the best from around the world, and came home with beaming smiles and trophies tucked safely under their arms. They team triumphed over the national champions from nine countries to win the world title at the 2018 KLQ World Championships, defeating the Raffles Girls’ School (Singapore) who came in second, the Oxford High School (UK) who came in third, and the Belmont Intermediate School from NZ, who came in fourth. The Kids’ Lit Quiz, affectionately known as the ‘Sport of Reading’, is an annual literature competition for students aged 10-13. Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom and USA. The winning team from each heat competes in a National Final with the champions competing in the World Final.
