creative inspirations Copyright © August 2011 Good Reading Magazine Pty Ltd Katie Alves is 22 years old and lives in Canada. She is a portrait photographer and artist and she is very creative with make-up! A Halloween makeup thingy! This one features a witch, bats, black-and-white stars and a fence with the light showing through on the lashes. That reindeer was hard! He’s still a little mutated, but he’s just one of the special ones. There’s a lit-up tree with a star on top, snow, a pretty star in the sky and a reindeer with a bell collar and a red nose. How could you keep your mind on your work if this 12-metre blue bear was staring at you through your classroom window? This incredible sculpture stands at the Colorado Convention Centre in Denver and is a very popular tourist attraction. Check out Katie’s website here! Submit your work for publication! It’s easy, click here! Some artists use paint, some clay, others wood or steel. But artist Nathan Sawaya likes to use Lego! And why not! www.brickartist.com See more of his sculptures Katie Alves Peek-a-blue Urban River Puppy love When is a river not a river? When it’s The Urban River! A one kilometre long stretch of road painted bright blue to look like a river in the middle of a city! Using 4000 litres of paint, it was created in memory of an actual river that once flowed through this location. All along the road, in eight metre high letters, ‘Water is Life’ is written so you can read it from the sky. A beautiful and inspiring piece of art from the Netherlands. This puppy always smells great as it’s made from masses of living flowers attached to a wood and stainless steel frame. And there’s no chance of the flowers wilting either, as it has its own internal irrigation system. Sitting 12 metres high, it’s currently outside the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. Puppy is a curious and breathtaking piece of public art by Jeff Koons.
